These are my nails for the documentary and man, they were a pain to do. Fairy dragons are some of my favourite things to paint when I do actual paintings, but I have never ever tried to paint them so unbelievably tiny. These nails took many hours to do and my poor neck and back were screaming once I'd finished. Either way, I think they're quite lovely!
Aren't they cute? This is not exactly like my original vision, but I'm pretty happy with the results anyway!
The purple background is a sponged on radial gradient using (from darkest to lights), China Glaze Grape Pop, Chi Chi Capital H.I.M and Essie To Buy Or Not To Buy. I really like how it looks and I definitely want to try it on my own nails!
The little dragons and vines were painted using acrylic paints and a very tiny brush. Many many layers. Many. Layers. This little guy is just so adorable. I want one!
Once I'd finished painting I stuck some little rhinestones on to be my glistening red fruits and then added a magical fall of red glitter beneath each one. I also dabbed some Nubar Dewdrop around the dragon's wins to add some sparkle there. I sealed the whole thing with two coats of Seche Vite and voila!
I hope you like these as much as I do. I'm rather taken with them.

Holy crap! These are just aghh amazing and magical and radial gradient how?? I'm just going crazy over how good these are!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Thanks Vicky! I did the gradient by painting a circle on a sponge in the mid purple. I then painted a bigger circle around it and put a blob of the light in the middle. Did a few layers and stretched/compressed the sponge to get it all soaked in properly.
DeleteThen I just proceeded as with a normal sponge gradient. Roll onto a couple nails and refresh the polish. Repeat. It turned out pretty well! I have a picture of the sponge with the gradient on it if you wanted to see that.
That's really helpful! Thanks for sharing your secrets, I'll definitely try this out.
DeleteWow. These are amazing. It's so impressive how many tiny details go into your creations! This is just wonderful. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHow did you get to paint nails for these guys? I'm so jelly ;)
Thanks so much Moana! I messaged the lady doing the documentary on Facebook. The deadline was actually that day but she was kind enough to wait a couple days so I could get something to her. It was still a bit of a mad rush to get these finished in time though.
DeleteWow, and you managed to produce such magnificence under pressure? You're a wizard...ress... or something. These are amazing, I'm sure she's glad she waited!
DeleteI work well under pressure. Otherwise I can be lazy, haha!
DeleteExcuse my language but HOLY S**T! LOL These are fantastic!! Everything about these nails are perfect so beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kristine. And don't worry about the language, as far as I know we're all big girls here, haha!

ReplyDeleteAlso, I've been wanting to try a radial gradient for FOREVER but the cleanup frightens me. Now I'm gonna have to do it ASAP.
Do it! I loved it!
